Saturday, 4/28/18, Langhorne Manor, 6am —
The morning fog still covered the ground as we got to the pond at Cairn University. Seil Park, Rock Tackle Co’s Product Specialist, worked In conjunction with Jeff Barnes, the Eastern Director for C.A.S.T. for Kids, to coordinate all of the necessary volunteers and fishing gear needed for the kids to have a great day on the water.
Operating since 1991, C.A.S.T. for Kids has already launched this event model in dozens of locations across the country from California to Connecticut, but Saturday marked the Foundation’s first appearance in Pennsylvania. Needless to say, it was much anticipated: some of the participants arrived as early as an hour before the start of the event; many of them — all children with special needs — came with their relatives. By 9am, the crowd surrounded the pond with fishing poles and tackle boxes donated from the Foundation’s long-time partners. Each participant also received a free RockTackleCo. rig holder in a case for any of their future fishing endeavours. After all, the mission of this event was to encourage children with special needs and their families by providing them with a fun day of fishing — and hopefully a new lifelong hobby.
The kids had a blast: some learned how to jig for little sunnies; others cast out far and hooked into catfish and (the highlight of the day!) a monster carp. Volunteers assisted the children with both fishing and other activities. Most importantly, everyone came together under one cause, encouraging and fellowshipping with one another as a true community should. For us, being part of such an experience was a true blessing and honor.
We would like to thank our sponsors — Cairn University, Chick-fil-A, Tony Valentini Photography, and Jesus the Savior Missionary Church — for making this event possible. We also would like to thank Jeff Barnes of C.A.S.T. for Kids for working with Rock Tackle Co. on event organization and flying over from Alabama for the day. Finally, thank you participants, volunteers, and families who came out on Saturday and made it such a blast — we hope you created great memories that will last you a lifetime. We sure did.
